Territory Craft Artist in Residence 2008 Kate Eagle

My images tell stories that reflect some part of my life. People, places, movies, songs and dreams blend together to inspire ideas for my art work.

Born in Melbourne in 1972 and spending my childhood in rural Victoria, art has always been part of my life, with both my parents and paternal grandmother being artists. Being immersed in the world of art I learned from a young age to appreciate and understand the creative processes involved in a wide range of art forms, including ceramics, photography, painting and printmaking.

When I was 19, I began travelling and spending time working in a variety of unskilled jobs giving minimum attention to art. Instead I deliberately began seeking out experiences far removed from the world I knew as a child. My travels took me to some fascinating locations unaware at the time that I was stockpiling a collection of knowledge and experience that I now draw upon as a practicing artist.

In 1996 I moved from Victoria to Western Australia and in 2001 I began painting again after 8 years of not picking up a brush. However it has only been in the past 12 months that I have placed my art in front of an audience with my first exhibition taking place in Margaret River in 2007.

Late 2007, I visited the Northern Territory for the first time and fell in love with so many aspects of this magical part of the world. I have since been very fortunate to be granted Artist in Residency with the Northern Territory Craft Council for 2008.
I am now currently focusing on printmaking and painting and working towards a solo exhibition in September 2008.

I hope that viewers of my art can find something to relate to and that imaginations may be inspired to let a story unfold along the way.
